When we decided to relaunch the iSchool’s student journal this year, we knew it would
be a challenge. How could we possibly create a publication that would accurately
represent an incredibly diverse range of students with such different research
interests? Although we spend hours every week in the same building, students at the
iSchool often have little opportunity to come into contact with students outside their
concentration or to read and engage with their work. And yet our disciplines have
much in common. While we may be divided into separate classrooms based on course
requirements, faculty divisions, and ingrained categories, information professionals are
increasingly traversing the boundaries between these disciplines. This is why we
believe that fostering a sense of mutual understanding and interdisciplinary interest
among students is more important than ever.
